Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)

DSA can provide significant support for students in the form of assistive technology and a specialist tutor. This helps to compensate for the additional challenges dyslexic students face during undergraduate life. The specialist tutor helps with structuring essays and reports; they also teach proof reading skills and revision techniques.

Free Telephone Screening

Screening allows you to discuss the difficulties which are causing concern with a specialist. The screening process identifies whether a formal dyslexia assessment is appropriate; this ensures that only those with clear dyslexic tendencies are considered.

Dyslexia Assessments

All of our assessors have an assessment practising certificate (APC) so they are able to perform a diagnostic assessment for those students applying for DSA.

Assessments are undertaken predominantly online. This is carried out in two sessions lasting approximately one and a half hours each. Both sessions take place on the same day, the first in the morning, and another in the afternoon. After the assessment, there is a further hour to feedback the results. This ensures you have the opportunity to understand your individual learning profile fully, including both strengths and weaknesses. â€‹

Charges

  • telephone screening:  free

  • full dyslexia assessment and diagnostic report:  £550

  • travel charges will be applicable should an appointment in your own home be necessary

If the first session does not suggest a dyslexic profile, testing will be stopped and the results discussed with parents. In these circumatances the fee will be reduced to £250, but no report will be produced.
